No one, including minors, should not be forced to convert to Islam!

Wanita MCA National Chairman Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun lauds the statement made by Datuk Dr. Syed Ali Tawfik Al-Attas, Director-General of the Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia (IKIM) during his keynote address titled “Crisis in Religious Thinking” that the ability to think and reason is an important part of the process by which non-Muslims, including minors, convert to Islam. This is consistent with the ground-breaking decision of the Cabinet that adults have no right to decide whether minors should convert to Islam”. Hence, Chew Mei Fun urges PAS and other religious fundamentalist parties to stop objecting and criticizing the cabinet’s policy on child conversion. Instead, they should follow the views of Dr. Syed Ali as part of a general progressive trend of Islamic thought.
