Multiple-Stream Education system no obstacle to national unity

Wanita MCA National Deputy Chairman Dato’ Yu Chok Tow says the multiple-stream education system is neither a stumbling block to national unity nor the cause of racial issues. She adds that Wanita MCA disagree with the proposed single-stream system as the multiple-stream system practised by the nation since her independence has allowed various communities to develop their respective mother tongue education and instilled awareness on national unity and patriotism among Malaysians. In addition, under the existing education system, schools of various streams are advancing in a diversified manner, thus giving it a unique feature and even competitive edge in the nation. Furthermore, the Federal Constitution safeguards the rights of various communities to learn its mother tongue. History has proved that schools of various streams are valuable asset of the nation. This is in line with the “1 Malaysia” concept mooted by our Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Najib Tun Razak and will contribute towards the achievement of our goal of developing into a fair, prosperous and progressive country.
